THE
ZERO OPTION
A novel based
on the fate of Korean Air Lines Flight #007 that
was shot down by a Soviet SU-15 into the Sea of
Japan off Sakhalin Island in the early morning
hours of September 1, 1983, so the media reported.
Of the many questions still unsatisfactorily unanswered
about the fate of KAL 007, one is way out in front:
what happened to the wreckage? Where did it go?
How could a plane weighing close to half a million
pounds hit the water without leaving a slick of
baggage, cushions, trays, underwear and body parts
a couple of miles wide?
Answer: It can’t.
So if there was no wreckage, either it crashed
somewhere else or it never crashed at all. THE
ZERO OPTION is fiction done in a way that is entirely
and brilliantly believable.
