Robert Hillman

 



Robert Hillman is the author of four well-received novels: A LIFE OF DAYS (Angus and Robertson, 1988); HOUR OF SURPRISE (Simon & Schuster, 1990); WRITING SPARROW HILL (1996); and THE DEEPEST PART OF THE LAKE (Scribe Publishing, 2001).  His memoir, THE BOY IN THE GREEN SUIT (Scribe, 2003; UK, Summersdale; Italy, Giano Editore), won the prestigious Australian National Biography Award, 2005 and was short-listed in the non-fiction Book of the Year category of the 2005 Queensland Premier’s Awards.

Robert is also the co-author, with Zarah Ghahramani, of MY LIFE AS A TRAITOR (Scribe, 2007; Farrar, Straus, Giroux, New York; Bloomsbury, UK, and nine foreign-language editions), which was short-listed for the 2008 Prime Minister’s Literary Awards. He is the co-author (with Najaf Mazari) of THE RUGMAKER OF MAZAR-E-SHARIF (Insight, 2008).

Robert’s journalism has appeared in all major Australian newspapers and in the New York Times, the Los Angelos Times and the Daily Mail (UK). He is the recipient of a Literature Board grant and is completing a new novel, JOYFUL, due 2009.
