Craig Childs

 



Craig Childs is an Arizona native, an author, adventurer, and global researcher. He has written more than a dozen highly acclaimed books, two of which were chosen by the Los Angeles Times among the top nonfictions of the year.

He has written for the New York Times, the LA Times, and numerous publications such as Men's Journal, Outside, and Orion. He is also a commentator for National Public Radio'sMorning Edition”.

In 2008, he won the Sigurd F. Olson Nature Writing Award given to remarkable environmental adult literature that captures the essence of the human relationship with the natural world. Before that he won the Spirit of the West Literary Achievement Award in 2003 for his body of work, an honor he shares with Tony Hillerman, N. Scott Momaday, and Terry Tempest Williams. He is also the recipient of the Colorado Book.

His books include THE SECRET KNOWLEDGE OF WATER (Back Bay, 2001), SOUL OF NOWHERE (Back Bay, 2003), THE WAY OUT (Little, Brown, 2005) and HOUSE OF RAIN: Tracking a Vanished Civilization Across the American Southwest (Little Brown, 2007). Also to come is a new edition of THE ANIMAL DIALOGUES: Uncommon Encounters in the Wild (Little Brown, 2008).
