Barbara Becnel is an author, journalist, and film producer. She was a close friend and advocate for Crips co-founder Stanley Tookie Williams, and coauthored several books with him throughout the many years he was in prison.

She has won numerous awards for her writing, and lives in California where she ran for the Democratic Party’s nomination for Governor in 2006.
